What is a typical day of diving like?

The dive schedule changes depending upon our guests' needs. Many guests like to meet in the morning and do a pre-breakfast dive in Spooky Channel.  Most people have breakfast first and then head down to the dive shop.  The boat leaves between 830 and 900 each morning for the two tank morning dive.

On the way out to the site, the dive master will give you a brief introduction to the site, suggest a dive profile, and tell you a few things to look for on the reef.  Most dive sites are with 10-15 minutes of the resort, so by 9:30 you will be in the water enjoying your first dive of the day. Our dive master will escort you along the reef, point out the special fish and corals along the way.  The suggested profile will show you the best the site has to offer and is for the divers using the tables.  If you have a computer, you are welcome to dive your computer profile as long as you inform the dive master before you start your dive.   For photographers and others who like to hang out at shallower depths and have a longer dive, let us know before you leave so we can arrange the divers on the boats appropriately.   Depending upon the site, we either tie up to the moorings within the marine reserve, or the boat will follow the divers and pick them up at the completion of the dive.  We have a safety stop at 15' for 3 minutes. After you board the boat, the dive masters will log your depth, time and air remaining.

During your surface interval, we will bring the boat to the next site.  You are welcome to snorkel or sunbathe until it's time for the second dive. After the second dive, it's back to the resort for lunch and some off-gassing time.  After lunch, we ring the bell and head back out for the third boat dive of the day.  On the way home from the third dive, we can often drop off anyone who would like for a fourth dive through Spooky Channel back to the resort's beach. After a full day of diving, most people hit the hammocks for a bit of rest.  Others gather at the bar to talk diving, eat some munchies and kick back before dinner.  A few head out with snorkels and check out the Natural Aquarium Buoyed Snorkel Trail. People interested in an evening shore dive meet around dusk or after dinner. Night snorkels along the snorkel trail are also popular.

If you are on a return trip to the resort, and are looking for some new dives, try one of the new sites east of the resort. We've nicknamed a few spectacular ones, such as Radar Reef, Wrasse Hole, Neely's Butterfly Alley, but many don't even have names yet! Or charter the boat for a day at Cayos Cochinos, Barbareta, or Utila.
